Über die Jahre hat sich das Quartett immer wieder neu erfunden und klingt heute so frisch und inspirierend wie kaum jemals zuvor. Zur besten Folkband Schottlands wurden die Batties 2011 gewählt. Das herausragende aktuelle Album "Room enough for all" wurde bei den Scots Trad Music Awards 2013 zum besten Album gekürt!
Die Besetzung der Battlefield Band wechselte mehrfach, man spielte 35 CDs ein und tourte mit jährlich fast 200 Konzerten nahezu rund um den Globus. Das Quartett hatte eine eigene TV-Show bei der BBC mit Gästen wie z.B. Van Morrison oder Paul Brady und komponierte im Auftrag der BBC Soundtracks für etliche Schottland-Beiträge. Mit Mike Oldfield trat die Band im ausverkauften Wembley Stadium auf und als der Papst nach Schottland kam und eine Messe vor einer Million Pilger unter freiem Himmel abhielt, spielte die Battlefield Band die Musik dazu.
Dass Scottish Folk heute ein weltweit anerkannter und beliebter Musikstil ist, dazu haben die Batties, wie sie ihre Fans liebevoll nennen, einen Löwenanteil beigetragen. Die Battlefield Band gehörte Ende der Sechziger zu den Pionieren, die das Folk Revival damals losgetreten haben. In der Gründerzeit haben sie alte Traditionen so hip und ungestüm arrangiert, dass eine ganze Generation von Journalisten, DJs, Jugendlichen und Veranstaltern ihnen Kultstatus einräumte. Seither hat es die Band bravurös verstanden, sich immer wieder zu verjüngen und neue Impulse aufzunehmen. Das Motto „Scottish tradition reloaded“ bedeutet also nicht nur, Altes zu bewahren und zu fördern, sondern eine lebendige Tradition erneuert an den Start zu bringen.

Their seamless fusion of ancient and contemporary music and song has continually evolved, inspired by their rich heritage and fired by the strength and vibrancy of today's Scottish cultural scene, which they have done much to create and fuel.
Named after the Glasgow suburb of Battlefield, where the group was formed by four student friends in 1969, they have now been on the world's roads for over forty five years, distilling their own unique form of the Scottish spirit. They've performed in Germany, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Holland, Syria, Jordan, India, Sri Lanka, Egypt, U.S.A., Canada, Uzbekistan, China and the U.K; breaking down barriers and pioneering many new directions which others have followed. Angry, joyful, raucous, contemplative, their music is most importantly - accessible to all. |
