Gitarre, Bass, Drums, Vocals und Riffs – das Rezept ist alt wie der Mond, die Resultate klingen immer wieder frisch wie der erste Sonnenstrahl im Frühling. Jedenfalls in den rechten Händen. Velvet Two Stripes zum Beispiel. Derweil andere Bands das Gefühl haben, sie müssten ihrem Rock einen Hauch Computer einverleiben, um Zeitgeist zu markieren, haben Velvet Two Stripes die Gegenrichtung eingeschlagen. Sie haben das elektronische Doping ganz aus ihrer Musik verbannt und rocken nun umso härter, lauter und schöner. Zu hören auf ihrem neuen Album, „Devil Dance“.

Und ja: Wer eben Jack's White Stripes assoziiert hat, ist hier vollkommen richtig. Nur wird hier rauer gerockt.

Den Support bestreitet Dick Laurent, ein instrumentales Rock-Trio aus Basel, das es versteht 69er-Bluesrock, Jazz, 2020er Psychedelic und verzerrte Pop-Musik zu vermischen. Als klassisches Trio mit Keys als Bass (The Doors lassen grüssen!) spielt Dick Laurent aufregende Songs, die dich in eine musikalische (Alp-)Traumwelt à la David Lynch entführen und nicht mehr gehenlassen.

Guitar, bass, drums, vocals and riffs – the recipe is as old as the hills but in the right hands the results can sound as fresh as the first sunbeam in spring. Velvet Two Stripes are four pairs of such hands. Whilst other rock bands often feel the need to keep up with modern times by adding a computer to their sound, Velvet Two Stripes are going in the opposite direction. Having started off with a computer instead of a proper drum set, they have now banned all electronic frippery from their music. As a result, they’re rocking all the harder, louder and prouder.

Dick Laurent is the night’s support act, an instrumental band from Basel. They have an amazing knack of fusing 69-bluesrock, jazz, 2020-psychedelic rock and distorted pop. The power trio with a keyboard bass (shades to the Doors!) play exciting songs that abduct you to a musical world of doubtful dreams à la David Lynch – and there’s no way out of there.
