Wenn man sich den Hintergrund der “The Black Sorrows” anschaut, dann kommt man zu dem Ergebnis, dass die Band mit Joe Camilleri steht und fällt - er ist das Herz und Hirn der Band. Kürzlich wurde er als "Living Legend" vom Rolling Stone Magazin ausgezeichnet. Joe's musikalische Karriere umfasst erstaunliche 50+ Jahre. Als Sänger, Komponist, vielseitiger Musiker und Produzent, Joe Camilleri, wird als einer der erstaunlichsten Talente der australischen Musikwelt betrachtet. Joe wurde 2007 in die "ARIA Music Hall of Fame" aufgenommen.

Auf der Bühne, führt Joe Camilleri seine Band gekonnt durch ein ansteckendes Zusammenspiel, von verschiedene mitreißenden Musikrichtungen, wie Blues, Rock, Old school R&B, mit Einflüssen von Jazz, Country und Brill Building Popmusik. Die "Black Sorrows" haben eine große loyale Fanbasis in Australien und Europa. Ihr musikalisches Können und ihre Energie erfreuen Musikfans auf der ganzen Welt. Ein Jahr, nach dem Ende seiner einfluss- und erfolgreichen Band "Jo Jo Zep and the Falcons", gründete Joe Camilleri 1984 “The Black Sorrows", als eine lose Verbindung gleichgesinnter Musiker. Aus den einfachen Anfängen, wie Konzerte in verschiedenen Cafés rund um Melbourne oder dem Verkauf von Alben aus der Kofferraum des Privatautos, hat Joe die "Black Sorrows" zu einem der anspruchsvollsten Ensembles Australiens weiterentwickelt. Und als die ersten Radiostationen, den Hit "Mystified" zu spielen begannen, war endlich der Weg des Erfolgs geebnet. Die Plattenfirma CBS/Sony nahm die "Black Sorrows" unter Vertrag, und die zahlreichen mit Preisen ausgezeichneten Hits, wie die mit Platin veredelten Verkaufsschlager “Hold On to Me”, “Harley & Rose” und “The Chosen Ones”, konnten einem weltweiten Publikum zugänglich gemacht werden. Joe's Talent, als Songwriter, wird selbst von den Größten der Musikbranche sehr geschätzt und anerkannt - Künstler, wie Elvis Costello und John Denver haben ihre eigenen Cover- Versionen von Joe's Songs aufgenommen. “The Black Sorrows" haben, als “Beste Band”, den australischen Musikpreis ARIA gewonnen, spielen weltweit vor ausverkauften Bühnen, und haben mehr als 2 Millionen Alben verkauft. “The Black Sorrows" werden 2018, mit ihrem neuen 21. Album auf große Europatournee gehen. Zusammen mit Joe Camilleri (Gesang/Gitarre/Saxophone/Mundharmonika) kann die Band eine beeindruckende Besetzung mit Claude Carranza (Gitarre/Gesang), Mark Gray (Bassgitarre/Gesang), John McAll (Keyboards/Gesang) und Angus Burchall (Schlagzeug) vorweisen.
